Dear Prospective Resident,
Dermatology Associates of Tallahassee is honored to be collaborating with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and HCA Florida Capital Hospital in our collective mission to educate and train superb physicians who will practice patient-centered care, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and discovery in our field. Our residents will be conscientious, sensitive, and responsive to the needs of our community, with an emphasis on delivering compassionate care to elderly, rural, minority, and underserved populations. UCF’s College of Medicine and HCA Healthcare’s graduate medical education consortium received initial accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in January 2022 and we have since welcomed our first class of dermatology residents for the July 2022 academic year.
Founded over 35 years ago, Dermatology Associates of Tallahassee (DAT) is a single specialty group that focuses on the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of diseases involving the skin, hair, and nails. Recognizing the shortage of dermatologists in our region, DAT is committed to delivering the highest standard of dermatologic care to underserved populations. With our large patient population, state-of-the-art facilities, and committed faculty, we provide a robust training environment in which residents will develop unrivaled expertise in the management of complex medical and surgical conditions, pediatric dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, phototherapy, superficial radiation therapy, laser therapy, and dermatopathology. DAT has two outstanding board-certified dermatopathologists on staff who will work closely with residents throughout their training, offering weekly didactic lectures and protected time for discussions at the microscope.
While the bulk of our residents’ outpatient clinical training will occur at DAT, they will also care for patients at our Rural Health Clinics throughout the North Florida and South Georgia region. Under the supervision and guidance of our Core faculty, residents will gain a unique perspective and experience treating ethnically and socioeconomically diverse populations. Inpatient consultations will be conducted at our program’s teaching hospital, HCA Florida Capital Hospital, and Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Needless to say, we are proud to be granted the opportunity to train the future of dermatology in our community, and rest assured, we will be committed to your professional growth and success in our field.
Sincerely,
Stephen K. Richardson, MD Program Director, and Andras Schaffer, MD, PhD, Associate Program Director
